Challenge Site - KWerner Design Blog

{reported by Brandi Wiggins-Côté}

When Emilie assigned this topic to me, I kinda panicked. I'm SO not a challenge chaser. I feel pressure when I try to do challenges and the pressure makes my mojo run away screaming while ripping it's hair out. I've tried a few challenge sites for scrapbooking and I like that they help me with my titles, but I'm not one to scrap a photo of a cup of coffee or a pile of laundry. I mostly scrap pictures of my boys. I've tried to branch out but I always come back to their sweet faces and silly antics.

All of this babbling to say that I decided to review a site that I use quite a bit for my card making. I'm color inept. I can very rarely pull off a kick butt color combo. This is why I often visit Kristina Werner's KWerner Design Blog. Every week, she has a Color Inspiration for her readers to use as a jump point for some fantastic cards. In the stamping world, Kristina is a bit of superstar. Her simple yet beautiful style is a fave of mine and many, many others. She also has many other fab features on her blog including Make a Card Monday which is a cool video feature she puts out once a week, uh...on Monday. Not only is she a wicked awesome card maker, she is also mad talented in the scrapbooking department. She's recently come out with her own line of Digital kits of brushes and cuts. Very cool.

What I like:
-The Color Inspiration is a once a week thing so if i miss one, I don't have to wait long for the next one to come out.
-She uses Mister Linky for her readers to post their cards to, so it's easy for us to go look at everyone else's cards.
-She does a Color Inspiration round-up and picks her faves. Makes you feel kinda like a rock star if you get picked. LOL!
-Her site is super easy to navigate. I find that whenever I have a question about something, I only need to read a bit feather in the post or there's a link to another post explaining something going on in the first post. Postie McPoster. Could I say post a bit more, eh?
-It's a site that is chock full of stampy/scrappy goodness.

What I don't like:
-Uhhh...honestly? Nothing. If I was hard pressed to come up with something, I'd have to say that I don't find the challenges useful for scrapbooking. But that's just me and my narrow mind.

What I made:
Color Inspiration #51- chocolate, white, rose & mustard

Products stamps: gelatins - paper: stampin' up! - all accessories: stampin' up!

Color Inspiration #49: basic black, pacific point, kiwi kiss, rose red & whisper white

Products stamps: ketto, stampin' up! - paper: stampin' up! - paper flowers: mulberry street - fabric flower: stampin' up! - brads: stampin' up! - embossing folder: cuttlebug

Color Inspiration #50 - brown, red, yellow, turquoise & white

Products stamps: stampin' up! - paper: stampin' up! - punches and hardware: stampin' up! - embossing folder: cuttlebug.

What do you think? Have you been to check out KWerner Design Blog before? Would you use the color inspirations on a page or just for cards? Do you follow any other card making challenge sites? I'd love to hear from you guys!

Wow! Love those cards! And I am not much of a color genius, so these color combinations are awesome and inspired (and something I would never have tried on my own)!

I will definitely check out this site. I have friends who do challenges on various sites, but it is something that I have not tried yet. Looking forward to giving this a whirl!

Love your cards Brandi. That pirate card is stinkin' cute! I really like Kristina Werner's blog. I get so much inspiration from there. If my mojo gets stuck in nuetral, I go there, cruise the color/cards, and ideas pop into my head. I love using her color combos on scrapbook pages. Great review!

Very nice cards Brandi. You're so good! I like the idea of color inspiration. I think It gives you a the little push to dive. But at the same time it doesn't limit you on a style or subject like a lot of challenges do...

Nice work buddy...

Great review! I would use the color combos for challenges. I try to participate in a monthly color challenge at sb.com and it can be very inspiring to use colors chosen by someone else. And I really like how detailed her color sets are.
