Idea Book - Snippets

{Reported by Paula Gilarde}

Snippets is not your typical idea book - it's actually a compilation of 25 essays by Lain Ehmann on the topic of scrapbooking, covering the lighter side of that hobby that we all know and love. I found myself nodding, laughing out loud and occasionally acting very silly. Essays like "coming out of the closet " {#22} struck a chord -- who among us hasn't been on the receiving end of the "huh" response when you mention that you scrapbook? Lain explains that phenomenon better than anyone I know and give ideas on how to win the unconverted over!

What I liked:
1. It's pocket sized -- great for tossing in your bag for reading when you get a spare moment. It's also the perfect size to fit in a Christmas stocking!
2. It has 21 good reasons/loopholes for purchasing scrapbooking supplies when you are on a spending freeze. :D I mean who can argue with:
"Items that are pink or polka-dotted are exempt" or even
"Items purchased with PayPal funds are exempt". I'm not ashamed to admit that I've already used both of these excuses!
3. Where else can you read a mind-reading exchange between husband and wife that you can totally relate to - for example when Lain brought home more patterned paper and her husband gives her the "did you need more paper" look:
Lain's brain: That's OLD paper. I needed the NEW stuff.
Hubby's brain: It all looks the same to me
LB: All the football games you watch look the same to me, too, but you don't see me giving you a hard time about it.
HB: Whatever
LB: Exactly.

What I disliked:
1. I need more!
2. I'd love to have seen some humorous layouts in here. I know I was inspired to make some after reading it!
3. I want even more stories!

What I made:
Inspired by essay #14, A Scrapper's Purse. Although my purse doesn't contain quite as many items as Lain's, I thought it would be fun to record what I carry around right now. It's a little glimpse into where my life is at, for example I still carry raisins/snacks for the kids, but diapers are a thing of the past.Credits: Caught on Film layered template, Black chipboard alpha and Alphabet strips by Katie Pertiet; Ghouls night kit by Andrea Victoria. All from http://designerdigitals.com

Inspired by # 23, Those Poor Kids. It's true, sometime scrapbooker's kids never get a moment to themselves. I've got the photos to prove it! :o

Credits: Spot Dots no 13, Notebook Journalers, Around Words brushes and Photo Clusters no 24 by Katie Pertiet; Stitched by Anna Baby Blue, Work Hard Play Hard elements, Dripped Stains brushes 1 and 4, Grumpy Word Art no 1 and Scratched Overlay no 2 by Anna Aspnes; Journaling Spots by Lynn Grieveson; Text Byte no 26 by Pattie Knox; Spookable Kit by Mindy Teresawa. All from http://designerdigitals.com

And finally I added my own list to all the lists/reasons/excuses that Lain had in the book -- 10 ways in which my life has been improved by scrapbooking.

Credits: 10 things layered template by Ali Edwards; Roughed up alpha dots red and Photo Cuts no 4 by Katie Pertiet; Upcycled Art no 4 by Anna Aspnes; Esryn by Michelle Martin; Everyday Basics Green by Mindy Teresawa. All from http://designerdigitals.com
