Creative Memories

{Reported by Ashley Harris}Alright I have to say that whenever someone mentioned Creative Memories I would have a flash back to my college days when it was cool to cut your photos in circles and shapes. For me, it seemed that Creative Memories was going to remain that way. Stagnant and not evolving with the market. Well, guess what! They have changed and in a delightful way! They have colorful new monthly kits and have a variety of embellishments to accommodate their patterned paper.

What I liked:

1. I really like their foam adhesive squares. Probably some of the best out there...
2. The journaling tags were super cute and embossed. Really liked that!
3. The large shape cutting system is great and easy to use!

What I disliked:
1. I would like the patterned paper to be of a more sturdier weight.
2. I would really like the stickers to be re-positionable too.
3. The cost really is the thing I do not like at all.

What I made:

All supplies Creative Memories Simply Beautiful Collection except jewels from Zva Creative and Kaiser Craft

Where and how much?
Product: Simply Beautiful Collection
Manufacturer: Creative Memories
MSRP:$7.50-$99.00
Available Online: Creative Memories

What do you think? Is this something you would be interested in, or are you alright with passing it up? Leave a comment by midnight EST on Thursday to be entered to win a FAB prize pack from Creative Memories!

I've used CM line before, their idea of scrapbook is flat scrapbooking, no bulky things which to me is a bit boring. Their paper line design is very subtle, but with good quality. I do love their stickers and tags. I would normally go for other designed PP from other companies which has more interesting color scheme.

I've actually never heard of Creative Memories before! And I thought I knew every manufacturer in the world ;D

The patterned papers looks very versatile, the colors looks fresh and funky but guess I have to "see" them with my fingers to judge:)

LOVE the journaling tags, I'm always looking for new and exciting journaling pieces, and I really think I have to try them out.

You made some gorgeous projects with the line, especially the green card!

Are Creative Memories products only to be found in their own online store?

Oh wow, I never realized they had 'evolved' either. I just picture the flat stickers and journalling with the 'circle' at each point of each letter, LOL!

Glad to see that they are still in the marker, CM's products look great!

I love these new products!!! hope I get lucky and win some!!! good luck everyone! thanks for the chance to win!

The products look nice, and your examples are beautiful! I'm not sure how the cost compares to other similar products that you can buy online or at a craft/scrapping store, but I would probably be willing to pay extra to get really good foam squares that I don't have to fight with to use.

Love the brights colors! Your cards are so cheerful! also, that layout is so much fun--love that circle shape! Thanks for a chance to win!

I think their stuff has gotten better, but I'm with you on the prices!

Cindy said...

I've never used Creative Memories for two reasons- first, I hadn't noticed that it had caught up to this decade (good to hear); and second, I've heard that the prices were outrageous anyway. I do understand that the quality is top-notch though. I'd love to give it a try to see for myself.

I went to a CM party last year just to be nice, and I was pleasantly surprised! However, i agree, their prices seem really high.

I actually find that CM prices are comparable to CTMH and to the prices I pay at Archiver's. I agree that CM has definitely made strides in catching up to the rest of the market and has moved in some 3D embellishments (the flowers used in the samples). I still prefer the CM tape runner for my photos, altough I do use other adhesives, too. I also still really like the CM strap hinge albums, although I am also toying with doing a D-ring.

Your projects are really nice! I might have to give CM another look.

Your examples are beautiful! I love CM's new direction, their collections keep getting better and better! WTG CM!

I have mixed feelings about CM, but like this line that you showed here. You did great with it all and I am looking forward to giving them another try!!

They have come a long way! I love what you did with the flowers! Crystals and pearls - divine!

So, a side review of CM. I finally decided to splurge and buy a CM kit while I was at a crop. I like the pattern of the paper, but the weight factor was super flimsy. Also, for the price of $9 (plus shipping and tax, making it almost $11) I only got 4 sheets of double sided paper, 6 photo mats and one small sheet of stickers. I probably won't be purchasing any of their kits again, being a frugal stay at home mom (who wants to stay that way!) I will probably stick to other lines that are better quality and price.

I WAS impressed with their punches though. They were super smooth, and very crisp. That is one thing I will splurge on. I do plan on buying a corner rounding punch. I used one at the crop that the CM host let us use, and I was so happy with the results. After hearing the price- I wish I would have bought a corner rounder instead of a paper pack. I felt ripped off with the paper pack.

There are some photos of the projects I did using the paper pack and corner rounder over on my blog.

http://dawnsaddiction.blogspot.com/2010/05/wanna-crop-yesterdays-goodies-and.html

The purse was covered in the CM paper pack, and the butterflies were from a CM punch. Also, the layout (princess and the pea) I used the edge rounder, and the layout with my fiance and I at wild horse monument/columbia river lookout was all CM paper and one of their stickers.

enjoy!

I started scrapbooking with CM products. But I since stopped purchasing because it's so darn pricey! Not only that you have to pay the hefty shipping charges. I do LOVE all their paper punches. The last one I ordered was the paisley punch and I use it often. I would consider buying from them if the lowered their prices just a bit and eliminate the shipping charges.

Love me some CM! I attend my consultants crops every chance I get. Thanks for the chance to win!!

I love CM tools and punches. Use them all the time. The new larger cutting templates are great. Love that the consultants host crops! I always attend.

Like a lot of people, I started scrapbooking with CM and there are still a number of their products I use exclusively. They've definitely made great strides for keeping more current with other industry offerings.

Creative Memories is who got me into scrapbooking in the first place and oh yes the days of photos cut in shapes and stickers. I agree with you about the price and the weight of the papers I dont like either one of those either. I do like their punches and large circle cutter though. I like to see what new things they come out with every so often and it would be fun to receive a prize package of goodies.

Anke said...

I like the colourful patterned papers. Just one colour. Some manufacturers make the papers so loud I must use black and white pictures to match with it. With these CM papers it won't be a problem to use colourful pictures. And it seems to be great for cards too.
I should like to try their stuff, specially the journaling tags.

there are some CM products that i absolutely LOVE and are among my favourites. i, like you, was convinced that they'd stay with the "beginner/traditional scrapper style", but it's nice to see them stepping outside of the box a bit! some great colours here! i'd love to play with some of their new products, to see if they'd make their way into the list of current faves! i absolutely LOVE the cards you made here!

I've only been to one CM party. I bought some tools and have no regrets as they are some of the best on the market. I was given a very generous gift certificate last year, and bought two albums. They were outrageously expensive--although they are beautiful. I would never spend that kind of money on albums myself.

kgscrapper said...

I see I am not the only one who started scrapping with CM. It didn't take me long to become bored with flat pages and stickers. However I do like thier tools. Their "small" paper trimmer is my must have tool!! I love the corner rounder and I have a ton of their punches. It is nice to see that they are evolving their products.

Erica Hettwer said...

I'm actually really curious about them now that I've seen this. I didn't realize that they'd updated...

Samantha T. said...

I'm sort of with you, I wasn't sure they'd ever be "cutting edge". But...that being said, those embossed tags are fabulous, and some of the new colors are pretty great. Plus they've paired with Make-a-Wish on a few great products with part of the proceeds going to MAW, so that's always a + in my book.

Cassi said...

i love the woodgrain paper featured in your project here. thank goodness for their facelift.

Jean said...

I like the colors and those tags. I would have used their products in the past and would try these.

I started out with CM and still like some of their products. They are excellent quality. So, I would love to try some of their new stuff. Thanks,

CM is what got me started scrapbooking back in the 90's. I still use my oval cutting system frequently - but thats it. I would be interested in trying their new products. Thanks for the chance to win.

Laurie (Wally) said...

I agree with your dislike... the cost would be a huge factor for me... and for what??? I could certainly pass on this product.. and that is why I have not scrapbooked with CM for years... thanks for the review...

Wow, they have come a long way from my first scrapbooking with Creative Memoires products. I would love to win a FAB prize pack from CM and check out all of their new goodies.

I haven't seen anything from CM in years. I first started scrapbooking with their products and still use many of their tools. I bought a marker set about 10 years ago and they still work great! I would agree that their products are pricey and I hate paying really high shipping charges so stopped buying from CM and CTMH.

Gabi said...

I know a lot of CM consultants, but I never buy anything from them. I like some of the stuff that they have out there, but I tend to buy 'cheap' if you know what I mean.

I don't buy anything unless it's on sale, and CM is rarely on sale :)

I generally like Creative Memory products, especially their pens and their punches. I agree that they're a little more pricy than I usually go for. I love the things you made, super cute!!

klasickewpie said...

Oh my! The papers and designs made with the CM product are "simply beautiful". I have not tried CM, so would love to win some, and give it a creative go.

Stephanie said...

CM is also how I got started in scrapbooking. I was never a fan of their papers because they were an odd size. Maybe I will have to take another look if that has changed. I have always felt like their tools were very high quality. I still use my circle cutting system regularly and wouldn't use anything else! I do agree, though, that their prices have always seemed high. I would pay that for tools, but not paper and stickers.

Your projects are beautiful, BTW!

Cyndi said...

I do like some of CM products. Getting to see or purchase their products isn't always so easy. Some products are well worth their price while others not so as other manufacturers offer similar items at more competitive prices and make them easily available. Love your creations!

Joli said...

When I think of CM I think of a strip and a triange! I would love to try out some of the new products!

I have not seen anything from Creative Memories in years! Thanks for letting us knowg about the new goodies from Creative Memories! I think you should change your name from the Scrap Review to the Enabling Review!

It's been a LONG time since I scrapped with CM products, but believe me, I know plenty of consultants who have invited me to crops! I guess I've had bad experiences with CM folks telling me that I'm cropping the "wrong" way...and many friends who crop the CM way haven't even heard of other popular manufacturers.
So I'm glad to see that the people who design CM products are looking at more scrapbooking trends. Hopefully they'll keep moving forward.

hipljp said...

i started out with CM, and i too didn't think they would evolve. after i got my computer, i found the wonderful world of scrapping with "contraban" lol. I also liked that i could scrap more frugally. CM prices are sometimes out of my reach. this is a cute kit though, so i would give it a whirl

CM products seem to be fine quality and not "too fussy'" which appeals to me. However, I think their prices are rather high.

Tammy said...

I love their tools, their cutting system is awesome. I've never bought their paper in the past because I thought it was boring, but these new papers look pretty cool. I didn't realize they had kits, glad to see CM is expanding their market!!

Lalia said...

I agree with what you said in the intro. I though they were stuck in the same rut. Love the new fun & fresh kit you presented here. Have acquaintances who are CM reps, I have to say that I've never seen any of this cute stuff in their books.

Glad to see Creative Memories is evolving with the times!

I love CM albums and pages. I haven't bought their papers in a long time but I really like these colors and would love to give them a try!!

I have never used CM products, nor been to a party for them. I do like the colors and simplicity of the products shown. I think they would work well mixing with other lines.

Nitasha said...

when I think o creative memories I think old school scrapbooking, but they have come a long way! I adore the cards you created. Can't say that I will rush out and buy their products but I wouldn't mine winning some and trying them out! :)

Stefanie said...

I also started scrapping with CM products, but have not used them lately. I love the bright colors and the journaling tags.

Rebecca Ednie said...

I like some of their paper packs, I used some tonight! I find their embellishments to be lacking at times. Their stamps are good quality but limited in selection. Overall a company I won't be exclusive to but I will buy from them now and again.

Delfina said...

I love the new flower's that they have. I have some of there product but I agree with you, I do not like to pay that much for a kit or a paper line.

Natalie said...

Wow. Who would have thought? It's cute... but the price issue would bother me. And were the flowers from CM? Huh. I would have liked to see all the supplies that come in the kits if they included embellishments like flowers and whatnot. I always like to see more of what's out there before it's put to use in a card/layout.

Merrilee said...

Those tags are just gorgeous. I never would have guessed they were CM.

Wendy said...

WOW, I must say I am impressed! Who would have thought they would have evolved with the rest of us, that is really good to see. I must admit I was a CM scrapper at the beginning and would like to gie them a try now! Thanks for your opinion

I think CM tools and adhesives are the best! I liked their cardstock too, but I don't like their prices. Your projects are great, especially the cards.

I am a retired CM Consultant and LOVE the product line. You get a much better deal as a consultant and an outlet for this awesome hobby. CM really built a love for the craft of scrapbooking!

Since like many scrapbookers I started out using CM I'm happy to see that they've evolved even if it's just a small bit. I like the colors of this line and the tags are adorable.

I do really like the looks of this collection.
I have always been a fan of their cutters and their bags and cases. It is hard to find better. It had been a while since I ordered and was sad that on top of their high prices you pay for s/h.

I agree with many others here -- love some of their products but they aren't for the frugal at heart =).
