Kaisercraft: Candy Lane & Homemade Collections

{Reported by Karen Desmet}

Kaisercraft, a family owned Australian craft and scrapbooking company has a simple company vision:
"To inspire the craft world with our products and the rest of the world without them."

Well, when I opened the box that contained the new Candy Lane and Homemade collections of paper and embellishments, I was most certainly inspired. Candy Lane, designed by Mikala Robinson-Koss, is a tea party on paper! Not only is it a tea party, but there are cupcakes served too! Bright pinks, coordinating oranges, greens, and yellows make up this collection of six double sized, heavy weight 12x12 papers. The papers share everything from polka dots, stripes, distressed solids, flowers, cupcakes, ornate scrolls and tea pots!! A large die cut cupcake complete with glitter, colored and black & white rub-ons, die cut elements, printed chipboard, journal tags, a 6x6 paper pad and beautiful rhinestone embellishments round out this lovely collection. The Homemade collection, designed by Jess Milinkovic, brings warmth and a 'down home', vintage/country feel to your projects, using earth tones hues. Homemade, the name of the collection says it all! Stripes, muted flower vines, distressed solids, a quilt of images, faux stitching, birds and a sheet of signs with 'home' sayings make up the collection that includes 6 - 12x12, double sided coordinating cardstock sheets. Additional papers with real thread stitching, rub-ons, die-cuts, journal boxes, stamps, buttons, printed ribbons and a 6x6 paper pad complete this 'down home' paper collection.

In addition to the papers and embellishments, Kaisercraft also publishes their "Workshop" magazine that showcases these newest collections. Beautiful layouts and 'out of the box' projects such as cupcake stands and cuckoo clocks featuring the collections are showcased in this publication. The bonus: instructions and supply lists are included with every layout and project! Check out the magazine here: October 2010 Kaisercraft Workshop

What I liked:

1) The papers coordinated beautifully. The colors and patterns on each and every sheet of paper worked perfectly with the next sheet in the collection.

2) The 6x6 paper pad that duplicated the 12x12 papers AND also included die cut images and papers with sparkle and texture.

3) The variety of coordinating products, yet there aren't so many that it will make your head spin. The line was kept simple, keeping to the basics of rub-ons, die cuts, stamps, etc.

What I disliked:

1) I had difficulty removing the die cuts and when I did remove them, they still contained the 'teeth' that attached them to the background. I felt like I spent quite a bit of time removing them, ripping them and then clipping the 'teeth' off the edges.

2) The 6x6 Paper Pad that duplicates the 12 x 12 papers were slightly off in color. They didn't quite match the larger papers perfectly.

3) The rhinestone embellishment pack (Candy Lane collection). These packs contain a rhinestone shaped cupcake or flower. They were VERY difficult to remove without ripping the adhesive/epoxy that hold the design together. Rhinestones also fell off during removal from the package.

What I made:

Other items: misc. chipboard letters, 12x12 canvas, pink acrylic paint, adhesive

I really enjoyed working with these two lines of paper. The overall product is very well designed and manufactured. Besides the individual collections, Kaisercraft also has coordinating 'everyday' generic type products that will fit very nicely into these beautiful designs. These items include paper flowers, rhinestones, stamps, ink, paint, ribbon and alpha stickers.

I've only used Kaisercraft products a few times (hard to find around me) but I've been very happy with their products! I really like the colors in the "Homemade" collection.

I also find it hard to find Kaisercraft in my area. The Candy Lane papers are very pretty, but Homemade is really pulling at my creative strings. Thank you for the review, and appreciate the point regarding the die-cut difficulty.
