Provo Craft's Cricut Expression 2 Anniversary Edition

{Reported by Ashley Harris}

Provo Craft has released the Cricut Expression 2 Anniversary Edition.  There are so many added features that are fantastic!  Let's go!

Ease of Use:   Straight out of the box, you can begin cutting within 5 minutes.  It is so easy to use.  Even a caveman could do it...hee hee hee.  Seriously it is CAKE!

Construction/Durability: Like it's predecessor, it is relatively lightweight and is of great construction.  This will last you for a good long while if you maintain it and treat it correctly.

Usefulness: Obviously this is for die cutting.  The best part is that die cutting is used for a bazillion things.  Scrapbooking, cardmaking, all sorts of different projects.  You can use all Original and Imagine Cricut cartridges on this machine.  It also comes with 4 preloaded cartridges!

Cost effectiveness:  This is always the tough one for me.  The price tag on this baby is pretty hefty.  It is $349.00.

What I liked:

- The last cut option.  With this option you can cut an image, remove the mat and take off that image.  You can reload the mat with the same paper, it will remember where you last cut and adjust the starting of the next image accordingly.  Truly love this option!!

- I love that you can cut multiple mats.  You can put as many images in the que and if it won't fit on one mat, it creates another mat to use.  Fantastic!!

- I love the fact that you can use multiple cartridges at the same time.   You just pick the images from the cartridges and place them on the virtual mat.  It's that easy.  Truly.

What I disliked:

- I really would love it if they could get the sizing increments down to eighths of an inch.  But hey, not a big complaint.

What I made:

This is a decal I made using Provo Crafts Cricut Cuttables Vinyl.  I will definitely be making more of these in the winter!  It was 114 degrees out there and I was melting and the vinyl became super sticky.  But it is sooo cute!  I love these decals.  They come on the Cricut Decals preloaded cartridge on this machine.

Supplies:  Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Kraft; Patterned Paper: GCD STudios; Button: Jenni Bowlin; Pearl: Melissa Frances; Lace: Misc.; Clear Stamp: Technique Tuesday; Ink: Memento; Die cuts: Cricut Expression 2 preloaded cartridge: Essentials and Alphabet

Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill Basics, Rhinestone: Kaisercraft; Baker's Twine: Divine Twine; Die Cut: Preloaded Cricut cartridge American Alphabet

Where and How Much:Product Name: Cricut Expression 2 Anniversary Edition
Manufacturer: Provo Craft
MSRP: $349.00
Available at:

Bottom Line:  I absolutely love this machine!  Truly.  I do.  The above projects do not do this machine justice in what it is capable of doing.  I encourage you to go and check this out!  Go to their tour of the machine here and see all the features up close.  Enjoy!

What do YOU think? Do you have a Cricut?  Would you like to upgrade?  Is it worth it to you to upgrade?  Let us know your thoughts!

I have a few good friends who have the CE2, and they are in love with theirs. I'm glad that I've held out for the expression, and I'll wait just a bit longer for this baby :)

How does this one do on the teeny, tiny, elaborate cuts? Is it any better than the original Expression?

Don't misunderstand: My Expression is among my favorite tools! I only wish it could handle the tiniest of cuts as well as it handles the large ones. :)

As for your question: This product won't find a place in home until it's in the $150 or lower range. Unfortunately $350 is ridiculous for those of us who have a small craft budget!

Thanks for the review and have a great day!

I have been drooling over this machine for the past couple of months. The price tag does give me pause, but the cutting options are nearly without end. My only wish is the machines cut at 1/8" increments as well.

Price is very hefty, but I would use it if I had one. I have the original cricut :(. Oh well, one can only dream.

I don't know if I would ever buy a cricut, I like my Silhouette and the fact that I can create my own images, import them from Illustrator, or even off the web. For me it handles tiny intricate cuts and such. If I was to get another cutting machine if something happened to my Silhouette, I don't know if I would buy a Cricut for that hefty of a price as well as all the cartriges and then finding the space to store all of them!

For the 1/8" wish ... You can choose 1/4" increments or millimeter increments. With millimeter, you have more control.
