Mini 8 Punch Day 1

{reported by Daniela Dobson}

Today I will review this Mini 8 Punch - Vine by We R Memory Keepers. This is a smaller version of their Lucky 8 punch. This one is perfect for 6 x 6 inch paper. I love making cards and couldn't wait to get started.

Ease of Use: I have to tell you that I didn't know anything about this punch. When it arrived I picked it up and started punching. After the first punch I realized it was a corner punch. On a closer inspection, it says on the punch, 6 inch. That gave me a clue to get a six inch piece of paper. I have lots of those 6 inch paper packs. Once I got the correct size I started punching. I was able to figure out pretty quickly that you punch four corners, flip the paper over, and punch four more times . Total of eight punches gives you the shape above in the photo. Pretty easy to figure out. Later on I got on line and was able to find numerous instruction videos on how to use it. Great!

Construction/Durability: This punch is pretty light compared to some other punches I have. For a 4 3/4 x 6 inches of dimension it's light. I didn't bash it around or anything, but it looks and feels durable.

Usefulness: the punch is perfect for 6 x 6 paper and it will punch that size of paper into a specific shape. If you want to use a 12 x12 inch paper, then it will only be a corner punch. Same with the 8.5 x 11 inch paper.

What I liked:
The ease of use.
Not too heavy.
Punches easy.
It's perfect for a smaller size of paper, in this case 6 x 6 inches.

What I disliked: It says it's perfect for cardmakers and I love to make cards. I can't remember last time I created a 6 x 6 inch card. I cut up the punched shape to suit my size cards.

What I made:

I don't have any of these punches but they look interesting. You are right -- I do not make 6 x 6 cards either.

I haven't tried these yet, but I agree that for cards the square size might not be best. I would mostly likely still use this for layouts more - great for anchoring photos.

6x6 isn't TOO bad if you need the space for embellishing or a poem or long sentiment.. but in general it DOES seem a bit large. and square is hard for a lot of people! the shape is nice though, and you were able to use it in rectangular cards well :) maybe if they see the review they'll be up to doing an even smaller version for cards!

I haven't used any of these yet either - but am fascinated with the idea behind them. Like you, I don't often make 6x6 cards, so I'm curious what they will come out with next!

I have one of the larger punches and love it. So I couldn't wait for these smaller ones to come into the market. I can't wait to see these in the stores.

I haven't tried these yet either! But they look fun! I have a bunch of 6x6 pads so they'll work perfectly!
