Well, I have just watched SEVERAL videos about the Gypsy and I cannot tell you how excited I am to get one. Loading your cartridge onto the Gypsy does NOT render your cartridges useless or empty. Each cartridge has a serial number and can only be loaded onto ONE Gypsy. You can still use your cartridges on your Cricut or lend them etc, but nobody else will be able to load them onto their Gypsy. I cannot WAIT! Might have to be a Halloween gift for myself! :-) Have fun everyone!

Just watched the video release, and in the FAQ it says that you can keep using your cartridges!! The only thing it says is that you can only load your cartridge in 1 gypsy. So you can't share your cartridges with your friends. So, that's to be expected.

The concept of this product sounds appealing to me however, I don't like that it empties my cartridges. There is too much room for error that could cause loss of data. I work with computers all day, I know what can happen to data stored in that way. Back to the drawing board.

Can you just imagine how many worthless cartridges are going to surface on sites like ebay after the owner has downloaded them to their new gypsy?? Buyers beware... Not only will I shy away from the gypsy but I will hesitate to buy ANY cartridges now... What if they have been returned to Walmart?? We all know Walmart takes back anything and sticks it back on the shelf...

Just wanted to help clarify some mis-information regarding Cart usage with Gypsy! I have it from a pretty reliable source (pretty high at provocraft) that no- the carts will not be erased. So if you own a cart and download it to your Gypsy - your friend can't take the same cart and upload it to her's. The carts can only be downloaded to the original users.
So with that said- I can not wait to get my grubby hands around one!

I understand where provocraft is coming from wanting to disable the carts after they are downloaded. say you have a friend who buys a cricut, then buys a gypsy, comes to your house and downloads all of your carts which you have invested thousands of money. they only have to buy the gypsy to have all of your carts. I don't think that the solution to this is to empty the cartridges. I think they should have a code of some sort that disables it from being downloaded multiple times. or have an uplink from cricut.com that will let you add it somehow. i won't buy it if it erases my carts. i don't care how many carts it comes pre-loaded with. I have a laptop that i can take everywhere with me that has pretty much everything on it that i need.

Sounds so cool and looks just like my sons PSP! BUT and it's a big BUT the fact the cartridges are empty after moving to the gypsie is not cool. There must be a way for the company to include a code to access cartidges info on line to download. My kid can download games..... I know it can be done. I think that Provo Craft is going to be really surprised at just how reluctant scrapbooker will be to give up the info for the portability.

I feel the same way most seem to feel. If it erases all info on my cartridges (43 of them) to only be stored on a unit such as this, I will not be purchasing it. If I lost it, or Heaven forbid it broke (you know how that technology stuff works out sometimes), I'd be out a ton of money and sitting with a useless Cricut basically.

IF it empties the carts and renders them useless I would NOT buy this one. I have thousands sunk into my 50+ carts ~ too much to risk. I also have a laptop and cricut design studio which can do everything this new toy claims to do. (keyword search on CDS will show you what carts have what you are looking for)Way too risky to put all you carts into this without any safeguards. What if the Gypsy malfunctions or just goes completely dead? All data would be lost. Nope, I think I'll just cart my laptop around and keep my carts safe.

I too am nervous about the empty cartridge thing. I bet it's because they don't want you to sell your carts once you've loaded them into the Gypsy. I wonder if you will be able to reload the carts if you choose to in the future. Otherwise - I am very tempted!

My biggest question is - how much is this thing gonna cost?

There is so much about the concept of this new gadget that really appeals to me ... I see it opening an enormous window of opportunities. HOWEVER, rendering my cartridges useless after they have been installed on the Gypsy raises HUGE questions in my eyes. Not just the fear of losing or misplacing the Gypse (which is possible) ... what about when the batteries die? Do we just STOP what we are doing and wait until we get new batteries or re-charge the unit? The carts now stored in this device, so we would have no other back-up. Have you seen what happens to a Scrapper when they are stopped while in the middle of a project? All I can say is ... back away slowly ... then RUN! ♥Carol♥

Am I understanding that if I need a flower, it will show all the flowers only from all the cartridges I have? That seems to be the one think I would like. I hate opening DS and then trying to remember what cartridges have certain designs. With so many heart, stars, flowers swirls, etc...I would like to say 'stars' and have all the stars. So, is that what this does (amont many other things? Sounds like they are putting the jukebox out of 'interest'.

It looks interesting. I could easily work on projects on my lunch break at work or wherever. The emptying the cartridge part kind of scares me because what would happen if I lost it or misplaced it for a while and I know I would! Then I couldn't use my Cricut at all. How much does it cost?
